AlShams Women’s Football Club - Womens Football Tournament
July 8th to 11th October 2024
Charles was deeply committed to women's empowerment and social justice initiatives. Among his notable efforts was organizing the Women's Football Tournament, which aimed to introduce women from the remote northern rural area of Shimshal, Pakistan, to the world beyond their community, many of whom had never ventured outside their local area before. Step & Cure shares this commitment to women's empowerment and continues to advance this mission.

In Northern Pakistan, near the Chinese border, is to be found the distant valley of Shimshal, home to the AlShams Women’s Football Club. Founded in 2016 by Coach Munawar Spicher, the club is open to girls of all ages and abilities. However, its purpose goes far beyond playing football.
The AWFC is all about empowering girls to be confident in themselves and their abilities and enabling them to fulfil their aspirations. It is about encouraging them to develop through education and to take their rightful place in society, participating on an equal level with their male counterparts throughout the nation and beyond.
The people of Shimshal can proudly boast to being an advanced and forward thinking community. However, their remote location and limited means, makes it difficult for them to participate in regional activities, events and tournament and the girls often miss out on opportunities afforded to others.
