Inspired by the legacy of Shahnaz and Charles, we enhance community well-being through essential services, sustainable living, social justice advocacy, and environmental stewardship.
As Executive Director of Step & Cure, a non-profit residential facility and orphan center, Shahnaz is dedicated to rehabilitating orphans and adults with disabilities. Honouring Charles' legacy, she and her team create a nurturing environment, committed to making a positive impact through essential services and community support.
Story
Charles Barker was an accomplished hotelier and motivational speaker whose career and business ventures took him around the globe. Educated in the UK, he lived and worked in ten continents. He managed hotels and clubs for prestigious brands including InterContinental Hotels, Forte, and Peninsula.
He was a renowned motivational speaker and trainer, having lectured at universities and institutions in Oman, Hong Kong, Kenya, and Pakistan. He regularly addressed environmental and sustainability issues, as well as climate change and its impact on tourism, hospitality, and the industry's future leaders.
Charles also chaired a high-quality, bespoke tour, trekking, and travel company in Pakistan. He used this platform to educate and support the development of sustainable tourism throughout the country, promoting the best of Pakistan on the world stage.
Charles, a dedicated marine conservationist, served as an Advisory Board Director for the Hong Kong Shark Foundation, an NGO dedicated to ending shark finning. As CEO of Second Chance Wildlife Pakistan, he focused on animal conservation. He organized numerous conferences and events addressing environmental and marine sustainability issues, and he frequently called out nations that permitted or encouraged whaling and dolphin culls.
Charles was a published author of four novels and a writer on environmental and current affairs topics, which he frequently discussed on television and radio. Through his blog, "The Grump," he lampooned and satirized global politicians and current events.
